More than 180 teachers are now part of iREAD! At the Kickoff on Friday and Saturday, we worked in small collaborative groups to create a bootcamp-style project that can be repeated with students this year. As we navigated through unknown territory, the just-in-time learning that took place empowered iREAD teachers to use the 4 C’s of common core. They were also challenged, with regard to the SAMR lesson design model, to work “above the line” or “in the deep end.”

Quotes from iREAD participants about the “bootcamp” kickoff model:

“Completing a project with my collaborative group showed me how much I could expect from myself and my students.”

“We really worked through somesnag-points during the activity - now we know how to navigate around them when implementing similar activities with our students.”

“I don’t have to be an expert (in regard to the devices)… I can learn from my students, and we can problem-solve together.”

“This was the best Kickoff in iREAD history!”

We’re looking forward to another great year in iREAD. If you are interested in applying for EUSD’s iREAD program in the future, check out the iREAD website. Look for an email from Kathy Shirley in the spring with directions for applying for the 2015/2016 school year.
