Close reading is an important strategy for reaching the Common Core standards, especially with the integration of complex informational texts.  Close reading focuses on multiple readings of the same text, with guiding questions, discussions, and collaboration to help students gain a deeper understanding of the text.  In the EUSD Resources My Big Cam
pus group, under Curriculum resources, there is a bundle to help you use this important strategy in your classroom at any grade level, K-8.

The following resources were shared by Silvia Dorta-Duque de Reyes at the 2014 Side by Side trainings and provide teachers with background information and a structure for scaffolding this strategy for all levels of English Language Learners.  The scaffold resource provides instructional tips for the first, second, and third reading before, during and after reading.  The one page scaffold support is a great classroom reference tool.
