There are 2 main ways to use My Big Campus for student essays:

1. Use MBC Docs: Students write their essays as an MBC Doc and then share it with the teacher.  This works much like a Google Doc, where teacher and student collaborate on one document in the cloud.

2. Upload word processing files:  Students write their essays using a word processing application such as Pages or MS Word, then upload the file to a MBC Simple Assignment.  The teacher downloads the files, grades and comments, and then re-uploads the files back to the students.

A Common Core Tech Tool

Integrating writing and technology can be easy with My Big Campus.  The Common Core standard says that students need to "Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences."  That standard is challenging and then thinking about how to integrate technology can be even more challenging.  My Big Campus docs gives teachers and students a platform to save, revise, and annotate their work on multiple platforms anywhere there's internet access.  MBC docs can be used for any writing task, large or small, and can easily become part of your classroom routine.  The How2s below focus on student essays but can be applied to poetry, collaborative research projects, and even assessments.  Learn how here.applies to Pages as well).
