In the Common Core State Standards, shared research starts in Kindergarten and continues on through the rest of the grade levels, increasing in complexity.  By 8th grade, students ask and answer their own questions through research and create even more questions through their research for further exploration.  The anchor standard states: “Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects based on focused questions, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation.”

Searching the internet for information is a learned skill that takes time to develop.  With World Book Online, students can search in a safe text and media rich environment.  World Book Online provides reliable information that is age appropriate by breaking the sections into ‘kids' for grades 1-3, and ‘students' for grades 3 and up.  There’s even an ‘Early World of Learning’ option that uses visuals and text read out loud to support younger students.  One new feature is an interactive timeline tool where you can view existing timelines or even create your own and integrate World Book Online media.  Our district subscription to World Book Online also includes Spanish articles, for primary language support.
This subscription can be accessed on a computer or mobile device at school or home and is available to all EUSD.  Click here for subscription information and get started with research!
