Coding with Kids with Chia Grossmann & Scott Soucy

Did you try the Hour of Code? Did you think about the Hour of Code, but didn’t have a chance to do it? When students learn to code, they cultivate skills involving system-based thinking, creative problem solving, art and aesthetics, writing and storytelling, and STEM. We will include resources to go beyond the Hour of Code.

Prerequisite: Teachers should know how to log into their new laptops.

Who should attend this session?  Teachers and administrators wanting to learn about coding.

Connected Educators and the Common Core with Jo-Ann Fox

Become a connected educator and learn anytime, anywhere, and at any pace on Twitter. Develop a network of educators from around the world. Learn how to join in on #edchats such as #eusdchat and how hashtags can help you learn about topics in education that interest you.

Edivation with Krystle Miller

Edivation has a huge library of professional development videos on a wide variety of topics. This session will provide an introduction to the Edivation system, along with the requirements of joining the EUSD Edivation pilot.  This 1 hour overview does qualify for Buy-Back.

Who should attend this session? Anyone looking to learn about a different PD model you can do anytime, anywhere!

Intro to Pages -- the New Mavericks Version with Kathy Shirley

Pages can make all of your writing creative -- no matter what the subject.  Creativity and communication are a breeze when students use Pages to express themselves.  Writing becomes verbal, visual, and always artistic using this full-featured word processor.  Learn how the complete redesign of Pages puts all the “write” tools in all the right places.

Prerequisite: Teachers should know how to log into their new laptops.

Who should attend this session?  Teachers and administrators wanting to learn about the latest and greatest features of Pages!

Intro to Your New Laptop & Mavericks OS with Tom Borer

This session will help you get comfortable with your new laptop. You’ll learn about some of the new features in the operating system called Mavericks, as well as some of the new features in the Mac Applications. I’ll show you how to connect your laptop to your classroom projector, and how to enhance your lessons to engage all students in 21st Century learning. This will be a hands-on session with time to explore. I’ll give you a bunch of resources you can access in the future if you need to review, so don’t worry if you aren’t comfortable using your laptop yet.

Intro to your iPad/ Troubleshooting with Colin Hanel

You have an iPad, now what? In this session we will go over basic use of the iPad.

Different apps and strategies will be discussed to help best meet the needs of all students, including ELLs and special populations, and to help teachers to stay organized in this digital age. I will show a variety of different apps that will help keep students engaged in 21st Century learning.

Prerequisite: none

Who should attend this session? Beginner- Teachers who have one iPad and want an introduction on how to use it in their classroom.

Introduction to My Big Campus Schoolwork to Assess Common Core Standards with Chia Grossmann

My Big Campus is a complete Learning Management System which includes assignments, quizzes, and grading.  You’ll learn how to assign schoolwork, add Common Core standards, grade it, and give students feedback.  Options for sharing schoolwork with colleagues will be discussed.

Prerequisite: Knowledge of My Big Campus groups is helpful but not required.  

Who should attend this session? Teachers who are looking to utilize My Big Campus as a place to turn in assignments and track student progress.

My Big Campus Bundles for Beginners II with Todd Mattox

This session will move deeper into using Bundles. Model bundles will be branched and modified.  The power of bundles for collaboration, creativity, and communication for teacher uses of bundles for lesson plans, student projects, multi-media, and professional development.

Prerequisite: My Big Campus Bundles for Beginners (or a good basic knowledge of MBC)

Google Sites is the easiest way to make information available to teachers, students, and parents. You’ll learn how to post links, resources, announcements, and homework. Flip Your Classroom Using MBC Schoolwork with Chia Grossmann

Flipped classrooms are all the rage. But did you know that flipping a lesson is so much more than having students access a video at home? In this session you will find the answers to these questions: What is a flipped lesson? How can I use Schoolwork to effectively deliver "flipped" lessons? How can I create a Schoolwork assignment with a video? What are some resources to create my own videos? How can I gain formative assessment information to drive what I do when students return to class?

Prerequisite: Be able to log into your MBC account. Some experience with Schoolwork is a plus but not a requirement.

In this session we will go over different ways to integrate the the use of 1 iPad into the K-8 classroom. iPads and Screencasting - Insight into Student Thinking with Krystle Miller

Do you know something well enough to teach it?  Ask your students to do that on their iPads!  There are a wide variety of FREE screencasting apps and it’s a great way to assess student thinking plus it can be a great teacher resource, too.  This session will take you through screencasting 101 and will leave you with a final screencast and a plan for using this successfully in your classroom!

Prerequisite: you must know how to download an app on your iPad

Who should attend this session?  Anyone with 1 iPad for teacher use or student iPads in the classroom.  This session is for beginners.
